The Shrubbery in Higham Road & the family

James Hyde was born in 1869 at Ecton. In 1890 he married Leanna (nee Driver), born 1860 at Chelveston, daughter of William and Sarah Ann (nee Tite).
They came to Rushden soon after their marriage and lived in Glassbrook Road. In 1892 they had a daughter, Louisa, followed two years later by Ethel. A son Gerard was born in 1897, Florence Mabel was born in 1900, and Philip in 1905.
After working alone for a few years, James went into partnership in 1902 and took sole control of that business in 1907 when he built a factory in Glassbrook Road. The business prospered and the factory was extended, and they prospered both in home and export markets, and also did much work for the Government during the Great War.
James also took an interest in the town's affairs and served on several committees for the council.
The family moved to 13 Irchester Road, and then in 1910 they moved into "The Shrubbery". The buisness was re-titled G & P Hyde in the 1930s, but seems to have closed before the war. (During the war it was used by Dubilier's. After the war it was taken on by Walter Sargent's, and then by George Bull.)
Leanna died in 1929, and James died in 1934.
