George Henry Bull took over the yard and premises of Ernest Catling, behind Stonehurst in High Street, Rushden, in the early 1930s and remained there until about 1958. This area of High Street was re-developed soon after.
The company was a leather factors but turned to sole cutting and insoles. The directors now were G E Bayes and A R Jones, and they moved to 61 Moor Road where they remained until 1970, when a fire destroyed the building and they moved to Glassbrook Road, to the factory where Walter Sargent Ltd had been.
When the company ceased trading the Glassbrook Road factory stood empty for some time, but it is now a series of small units.
Note via email: George Bull was born in 1879 in Small Heath, Birmingham and married my great Aunt Alice Louisa Cook in Haggerston, London in 1905. He died in 1953 and his wife Alice died in 1961 when her address was 245 Wellingborough Road, Rushden, Northants. As a matter of interest Alice's brother was disabled from birth but as an adult owned his own cobbler's shop in London.
I wonder if George Bull had something to do with that!
