Got up at 11-45. Had breakfast at 11.30. Washed up. Eric helped me dry. Tidied the house up. Went down Co-op for Mother. Put loops on my coat. Had dinner at 12.30. Cleared away. Helped Mother dry up. Washed myself and changed. Went along bank. Went down High St and up the Park. Had tea at 3.30 - Fruit and Cream. Read a story "Red Star Weekly". Went doctors and took a card. Went pictures - very good, two films 1. "A Safe Affair". 2. "The Modern Age". Joan Crawford, Neil Hamilton. Came home 9.55. Gracie Fields on the wireless. Aunt Kate was here. Had my supper at 9.10 [one of these times must be wrong?] Listened to Ambrose and his Dance Band. Went to bed at 11.25. |

Woke up about 8.25. Got up 9.55. Got washed. Had breakfast. Got ready for Chapel. Went to Chapel at 10.55. After Chapel went up the Park. Had dinner at 12.30. Dried up for Mother. Went Bible Class. Went up the Park. Had tea at 4.10. Played the piano. Got ready for Chapel. Went down the High St and listened to the Salvation Army [Band]. Went up to Chapel. Two fools were there. Smiled at --- since we did not speak. After Chapel Kath and I went as far as Higham and back. Got in home about 8.38. Had potatoes & peas and young onions for supper. Came to bed at 9.20. |
| May 23rd - Mon |
Started work after Holidays. Mother called me at 6.45, but I didn't get up until 7.5. Had my breakfast and had to rush off to work. The morning went very quick, but the afternoon seemed a bit longer. Had pineapples and cream for tea. Read a story out of "Womans' World". My toe hurt so I bathed it. Got ready for Brigade. Went along Brigade. Did First Aid nearly all night. Came home at 9.30. Had supper and went to bed. |

Mother called me three times this morning. Got up and went to work. Morning seemed longer. Some of the girls had to stop overtime. Washed up for mum. Washed and got ready to go out. Played the piano. Went to Irthlingborough and back. Got in home at 9.45. Had a cup of tea and went to bed. |
| May 25th - Wed |
Very good in waking up this morning. Edith gave me "Red Letter". Some of the girls stop overtime. Nell told us to stop but at 5.10 she told us to go home. Uncle Sam was here when I got home. Had some radishes & fruit for tea. Help Mother dry up. Washed and went down Library, pick a book called "The Girls of Friendly Terrace". Mother white-washed the pantry. I help her get the things out, and put them back. Went for a little ride on my bic. Seen Fred and spoke to him. Came home at 9.45. Had a glass of milk and went to bed. |

Got up at 7 o'clock. Nice morning. Had to stop overtime till 6. Had apricots and cream for tea. Washed and got ready to go out. Went as far as Irthlingbora', and back, got home at 9.25. Had a glass of milk and a piece of bread and butter. Stop up until 10.30 and listen to the wireless, called "You ought to go on the wireless" - very good. Heard Eric come home. |

Woke up at 6.50. Pouring with rain but I bic' to work. Had "bake pudden" for dinner. Took a orange and sweets to work. Had to wait for our money. Still raining at 6.50. Washed up. Washed myself. Uncle Sam came and also Aunt Kate. Left off raining for a little while. Listened to the wireless. Vauderville very good. Started raining about 10 o'clock. Uncle Herbert was took bad. Mum called Mrs Willmott. Grandma and Gramp went to Wellingbora, came home at 11 o'clock. Went to bed at 11 o'clock. Dad fetched the doctor. |

Still a bit dull, so I put my Mac on. Everything went alright at work. Edie gave me "My Weekly". Had a bath on Saturday afternoon. Went down High St. Went Theatre. Wallace Beery, Irene Rich & Jackie Cooper in "The Champ" - very good. Came home just after nine. Mother wasn't there so I went in Gramma's. Uncle a little better. Mum came home just after 10.15. Heard the Nightingale on the Wireless. May slept with us. Mum, May and me all in one bed. Had to get out of bed at six in the morning. |

Had to get out of bed at six, had the stomach ach[e]. Read "Scoolgirls Weekly". May and I got up at 9.35. Had breakfast, washed up. Got washed and got ready for chapel. Went Chapel. Raining when we came out. Had dinner. Went Bible Class at 2.0. Still raining when I came out. After tea it left off raining, so Kath and I went down Salvation Army. Went Chapel at six. Had nice hymns. Went round Hayway after Chapel. About 8.30 when we got home. Mum wasn't [there] so I went in Gramma's. Went down the bus with May. Uncle Herbert much better today. Went bed about 10.30. Still raining. |

Got up 6.55. Foggie. Collected round for a wedding present for Freda Bigley. Came home at 5.15. Had tea. Listen to Wireless. Washed up. Washed. Went down street with Kath to fetch some stuff for a dress. 11½. Went round Hayway and down Spencer Park. Got home at 9.0. Went to see Uncle Herbert, much better. Went to bed at 9.55. |

Got up at 7.3. Said White Rabbitts. Had breakfast and went work. Pouring of rain when we came out at 12.30. Still raining after dinner. April 1st won the Derby. Went up Aunt Ada's and fetch a ticket for Will's club. Washed. Went along Perce Wills for a dress. They were all too big. Going to send away for one. Took Wonderlands. Came home at 98.20[sic]. Went work, went down the High Street, went round a bit of a feast. Met Winnie and Connie and Kath and I stopped talking till nearly 9.20. Had a bath and went bed. |

Went work. Mum, Dad and Georgie went Long Eaton for the week-end. Went down street and watched the Blind and Cripple Parade. Very nice indeed. Went down the reck. Miss A Green opened it. Kath came in our house tea. Went pictures - Laurel & Hardy in "Beau Chumps" - not too bad and Wallace Beery & Marie Dressler in "Min and Bill" - very good. Kath and I got home about 9.30. I bin up Aunt Ada's. Slept up there. Went bed about 10.30. |

Went work. Ask Nell about Skegness. Nell put me on Oxford tongs. Went down High St with Kath. Got home about 8.30. Got ready for Skegness. All the factory had ½ a day. |

Got up about 6.5. Got washed and had breakfast. Cissie & Dolly came for me. Started off for Skegness 7.5. arrived about 11.0. Went on the sands and round the Pleasure Parts. Went on the figure 8, Quaint little House and many other things. I won a tin of Toffees. Got sun burnt. Bought a row of beads. Arrived Home about 2 o'clock. Had a very nice time. |

Mum, Dad, George, Clifford, Aunt Ada, Uncle Frank, Kath and myself had a carriage on our own. Arrived at Yarmouth about 11.15. Had a very nice time there. [Rushden only had a branch line to Wellingborough on the north/south railway - for east/west travel was from Irthlingborough railway station] |

Had to go to work. Came home and had a bath. Kath went down Street with her mum. I went to meet A Mary. Had her hair off and she don't look bad. Kath and I went Theatre - not bad - called "Strictly Business" & "Innocents of Chigioga" [Chicago?]. Walked up Street. Got home about 9.30. Went in Grandma's & then in home. |
