Board Schools

The first Board School opened in 1879, created from the General School, which was started in
1872 by the Non-Conformists as an alternative to the Church School that was built in 1870.

Wellingborough News, 17th May 1884, transcribed by Kay Collins

School Board—The usual monthly meeting of the Board was held on Monday evening, and there were present—Messrs. S. Knight (in the chair), G. Denton, N. Crick, G. H. Skinner, and J. Claridge. The Clerk reported that there was due on the loan account for repayment and interest, £78 14s. 9d. It was stated that the precept would be paid on Wednesday, and a cheque for that amount was signed. Upon the application of Mr. J. Claridge, the use of the Mixed School was allowed for the use of the Rushden contingent of the Crystal Palace Choir.
