Monday, Dec. 16—Present: Messrs. S. Knight (in the chair), G. Denton (in the vice-chair), J. T. Colson, D. P. Boyd, and J. Claridge.
Finance—The Clerk reported the following amounts in the treasurer's hands: Fees, £3 10s. 11d., and £2 19s. 9d., the balance in the treasurer's hands being £169 6s. 3d. Several cheques were drawn in payment of small accounts.—The Clerk was also instructed to forward a cheque to Miss Hunt for her salary from Sept. 29th.
Tender—The tender of Mr. J. C. Stevens for coke at 2s. 3d. per quarter was accepted.
Appointment—The report of the committee was adopted respecting the appointment of Miss McCaw as head mistress of the Girls' School, at a salary of £75, and half the pupil teachers' grant. application - Miss McCaw applied for additional help in the form of two half-time monitresses—Adjourned till next meeting.
Holiday—It was decided to close the schools from Friday, the 20th inst., till the next Monday fortnight, January 6th, 1890.
Miss Margett's illness—The Chairman reported that Miss Clifton required some extra help, as Miss Margetts was still very ill, and was not likely to resume her duties for another three months. The question of additional help was adjourned, and in the meantime temporary assistance would be obtained if possible.
Miss Darnell's salary—The Chairman reported that Miss Darnell was still very dissatisfied with her salary, and she wished to know if the Board would consent to her receiving a bonus in addition to her salary, the same to be proportionate with the result of the next examination.—The Board decided not to entertain the suggestion.
Dumb-bells—An order for one gross pairs dumb-bells for use in the schools was agreed to.

SCHOOL BOARD—An adjourned meeting was held at the Board-room on Wednesday to take into consideration the question of enlarging the school buildings, rendered necessary by the great excess of attendance over the accommodation. There were present—Mr. S. Knight, jun. (in the chair), Mr. G. S. Mason, Mr. D. P. Boyd, Mr. J. Claridge, and Mr. J. T. Colson.
Tenders were submitted for new class-rooms to the Girls’ and Infants’ Departments, as follows:—Adnitt and Everard, £666; Berrill Bros., £676; E. Marriott, ,£698; E. Brown & Sons, £717; H. Sparrow, £730; Clayson Bros., £736 10s.; C. Bayes & Son, £739 15s.; J. Underwood, £740. The tender of Messrs. Adnitt & Everard was accepted, subject to the approval of the Education Department.— In view also of the overcrowded condition of the Boys’ School, the Chairman was requested to instruct Mr. E. Sharman, of Wellingborough, to prepare plans for additions to that department.

SCHOOL BOARD
Monday, Dec. 15th.—Present; Mr. S. Knight, jun. (chairman), Mr. George Denton (vice-chairman), Mr. G. S. Mason, Mr. J. T. Colson, Mr. J. Claridge, and Mr. James Heygate (clerk.)
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
PUPIL TEACHER—In regard to Charles White, who was chosen as a pupil teacher at the last meeting, the Chairman mentioned that he had seen the lad's parents, who, however, were not desirous he should be a teacher; they were willing, however, that he should remain at school until the examination, and the Board decided to remunerate him at the rate of 2s. 6d. per week, the engagement to be terminable by a week's notice.
FINANCE—The Board ordered a number of bills to be paid, and cheques to be drawn for teachers' and officers' salaries.—The Clerk reported that £7 3s. 5d. had been paid in since the last meeting, the balance in hand being; £67 7s. 7d.
IRREGULARS—A flagrant case of irregularity of a child named Ada Lynes, who was reported at the last meeting, as only having made six attendances since the summer holidays. Not having attended at all since the last meeting, the Board decided to prosecute.—The Board also made an order for the attendance of Samuel and Rosa Ekins, the former of whom had made five attendances and the latter nil.
ASSISTANT-MISTRESS FOR GIRLS' SCHOOL—Miss Mary Cuffling wrote and also attended to apply for the above post. She had the recommendations of Mr. Shelmerdine, of Raunds, and Miss Cuffling was ultimately appointed to the post at a salary of £35 per year, rising by £2 per year to £40, on the proposition of Mr. Denton, seconded by Mr. Mason, the engagement to be terminated by two months' notice on either side.
PIANETTE—The Chairman reported that in accordance with a resolution passed at a former meeting he had ordered, with the sanction of the committee, a pianette for use in the Infants' School, the one already in use in the Girls' School having given every satisfaction.
