|
The council built these blocks on the land where prefabs had been since the late 1940s.
The first block has nos 1-19 Southfields [above]. Further into the site are other blocks, individual houses in rows, and some bungalows. [in 2025 bungalows are unoccupied and boarded up]
Near the top of the road is a block called Bates Lodge. This block looks onto the rear of another block called Pightles Walk. [see Pightles+White House Court]
The road at the side of Bates Lodge leads through into The Pightles.
Turning right passes Pightles Walk and left into Pightles Terrace at the back of Cordwainers, block.
At the corner is a footpath back into Southfields, and a further block to the right with footpath at the rear leading down to Park Road.
At the top of the site is a footpath through to The Pightles, Grove Road and Essex Road. Opposite here stood a large house called The White House, now demolished and White House Court has been built. These properties are part in Denmark Road, along Grove Road and into Pightles, occupying the White House plot. White House Court The corner plot is occupied by Devon Walk block with a footpath alongside leading back directly to Park Road. Next to this facing The Pightles is the block named Cordwainers, with a day centre meeting room. |
