The Staple Trade

Mr Amos Cave, of Rushden, is commencing business on his own account early in January. He has taken the premises lately vacated by Messrs. Hobbs and Co. (from Irthlingborough) in Sartoris-road, Rushden. Mr Cave will make principally Box calf and glace footwear.

Messrs Hamilton Palmer and Co, auctioneers to the trade, have been instructed by the Trustees, to Sell by Auction, upon the above premises, on Monday and Tuesday December 16th and 17th 1912:

The Entire Stock-in-Trade, Plant and Machinery.

Cut upper and Bottom Stuff, Upper and Bottom Leather, upwards
of 1,250 pairs of Boots and Shoes, 1,000 pairs of Uppers and Unfinished Boots and Shoes, Mercery , Grindery, etc.

The up-to-date and nearly new Machinery [listed]

The Office Furniture. Yost Typewriter, Steel Safe, Writing Desks, etc.

N.B.—Also will be offered on the Second Day of Sale, upon the premises in Alfred-street, firstly as a whole: The Entire Stock and Plant of the Rushden Wear and Waterproof Leather Company. Or failing a purchaser for the whole lot, will then be sold in lots comprising: Lathe and 25 Man-drills, Washer Cutter and Knives, 4 sets Scales and Weights, Copper, quantity of Washers, Solution, Grinding Mill, Drums, Buckets, Pans, Tanks, Measures, etc.

New Firm—The factory lately occupied by Mr. Amos Cave in Sartoris-road, Rushden, has been taken by Messrs. Davison and Duncan, who will shortly commence business as shoe manufacturers. Mr. Davison has been manager of the Northamptonshire Boot and Shoe Productive Society at Wollaston and prior to that was in the office of Thorps and Co., of Kettering.

Sale—On Monday and Tuesday Messrs. Hamilton, Palmer, and Co. offered by auction the stock-in-trade, plant, and machinery of Mr. Amos Cave. The boots made extraordinary prices. The cut stuff and leather sold very well, and the machinery fetched a fair price. Among other items were a treeing machine £10/10/0; Standard Rotary welt sewer £85 and a stitcher £75. Two Cox’s slugging machines realised £17 each; a small press £8; Julian rounder £9/15/0; Gimson’s jumper press £45; Giant hell compressor £21; Gimson’s screwer £75; Perfecta tacker £7/10/; Blake sewer £14/10/0; Bed laster £17. The Rushden Wear and Waterproof Leather Co. was sold as a going concern at £55.
