Weather Reports
Jaques and Clark factory
This postcard shows Jaques & Clark's factory in Station Road,
when British United Shoe Machinery were building their factory (now occupied by Stanley Hunt Printers) and before the Ambulance
Station was built. This is the aftermath of the 1916 blizzard.
High Street in the snow
Snow in High Street, c1905. The snow was cleared down the centre
of the road, and in front of the shops, probably by the shopkeepers.
In 1916 Mr Madin, town surveyor, designed the town's first snow
plough, and then made a replacement, as it wore out! - see the report
