North Street & Peck Way

Nicholson's Garage left - taken in the 1930s.
The house right became a butchery department of RICS in 1956 - flats now stand on the site (2009)

David Nicholson's Garage at 36 Higham Road was taken over in 1957 by PX Transport who transported Calor Gas. The property was taken with number 38, formerly Crane's Bakery and this became offices.

The offices closed in 1970 but the garage and workshops continued. They finally closed down in the 1990s. In 2001 a Netto Store was built. A new road was built to access the store and named Peck Way in honour of the Peck family.

The road extends into a housing development on the land adjoining, which included a pocket park accessed at the top of Crane Close.

The lower part of North Street became the new junction.
