Charles Edwin Knight - Butcher

C E Knight butchers
The business was established by Charles Edwin Knight, in about 1880 at 12 High Street, formerly the premises of John Radburne, a lace dealer who had died in 1879.

He kept Hilly Farm and later also took on Home Farm.

By 1908 the shop had been taken over by Wheeler's, and in about 1922 Edward Warren was the proprietor.

Wellingborough & Kettering News 04/10/1889, transcribed by Peter Brown

SWINE FEVER—Swine fever is again to be found in this parish. Mr. C. Knight, Rushden, bought some pigs recently, and had them sent to Higham Station. A man was sent to bring them to Rushden, but on getting to Higham, two of the pigs fell ill, and Mrs. White allowed them to be put in her sty until Mr. Knight could fetch them. One died before morning. Another pig fell ill, and was left at Mr. J. Shelton's, and the inspector has declared them affected with fever.
