Rushden Echo and Argos dated 9th May 1924 transcribed by Jane Linnitt
Death of Mr. Chas. E. Knight
A Well Known Rushden Farmer

To the deep regret of the relatives and the many friends, the death took place on Saturday night, at the Home Farm, Rushden of Mr Charles Edwin Knight, aged 68, the result of heart trouble. Deceased had been unwell for about twelve months, and a great deal worse recently. Mr Knight, a native of Rushden, started in business as a butcher about 1882 in premises in the High-street South, now occupied by Mr James, butcher. After having successfully established the business, Mr Knight removed in 1889 to the shop now under the control of Mr E Warren, in High-street. A few years later he took over Hilly Farm, High-street South, at the same time disposing of the butchery business to Mr R A Wheeler (who was subsequently succeeded by Mr E Warren). Mr Knight later on also became the tenant of the Home Farm, Rushden, adjoining Hilly Farm, and continued to manage both as long as he was able. His only child, Mr Frank Knight, has for some years past taken the responsibility of the farm management. Deceased has been known throughout a wide district principally as a cattle dealer, engaged in the Norfolk trade, and he attended fat stock markets at Kettering, Oundle, Northampton and other neighbouring towns. Owing to his expert knowledge as a judge of cattle, Mr Knight was appointed by the Ministry of Food during the war as a grader of cattle, and was given a large area to supervise.

Mr Knight's first wife died when Mr Frank Knight was born. Mr C. E. Knight married again about 18 months later, the wife being still living. Deceased was a member of the Rushden (Pemberton) Lodge of Freemasons, and he was a member of the Park-road Baptist Church.
