Chamber of Trade 1967 Exhibition

Success depends on the number who visit it

"THE success of this venture can be judged only by the number of visitors it attracts," says the president of the Rushden, Higham Ferrers and District Chamber of Trade, Mr. J. W. Brown, in a message to the public issued through the "Evening Telegraph".

Mr Brown writes:
This exhibition, the first for two years promises, to be a comprehensive one judging by the various trades and professions represented. The past year has been one of the most difficult for the traders of Rushden owing to the so called freeze or squeeze, as it has been for traders and shopkeepers in the country as a whole.

This exhibition therefore presents an opportunity not only for exhibitors to display their goods, and as the case may be, their services, but also for a large number of visitors to see that by shopping in Rushden they will be able to obtain practically everything they require for everyday needs.

Demonstrations

Visitors will be able to enquire the best way to select and buy a house, obtain advice on the best way to furnish it, and the most suitable and efficient form of heating required.

Other exhibitors will be arranging demonstrations at varying times. There will be stands showing gardening equipment and furniture, flowers, foodstuffs, television sets and radios, also gents clothing and stationery.

Exhibitors are allowed to sell their goods or services as the case may be, the first time they have been able to do this.

The success of this venture can be Judged only by the number of visitors it attracts, so I would appeal to all of you to make this a must and come along in your hundreds or thousands, I am sure you will find it will be well worthwhile.

Thanks

The chairman of the council, Mr. R. Greenwood will open the exhibition at 3 pm on Thursday, and afterwards Judge the best stand, for which a prize will be awarded.

Finally I would like to thank the exhibitors for their support, and wish them every success, and thanks are due to all the people who have helped in the organisation of this exhibition, and also to those who have offered valuable advice.

I hope the weather is kind to us especially on the Saturday, which as you know is Carnival Day, the day when most of the money is raised for many deserving charities. So once again I urge you. Come along and help to make a record support in aid of these charities.

Exhibition is Open

At 3pm tomorrow Mr R N S Greenwood, chairman of Rushden Urban Council, will officially open the trade exhibition sponsored and organised by Rushden, Higham Ferrers and district Chamber of Trade. It will be the first trade exhibition in the town for two years and, without doubt, the biggest and most ambitious the chamber has tackled.

The 31 stands—twice as many as any other exhibition the Chamber has organised—will be housed in two 40 ft by 120 ft. tents in Spencer Park on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The final day Saturday will coincide with the Rushden Carnival Fete Committees annual carnival parade and fete, which win also be held in Spencer Park.

Among the stands will be:

Jan's Floral Boutique: Flowers, plants and all the accessories to make flowers look their best, such as vases and bowls. [Jan's]
