The first branch was at 5a Newton Road in 1923. [see Trade Directories].
In 1929 it moved into 83 High Street, and in the 1970s it took over the Co-op Permanent Building Society, and then became Anglia Building Society.
After other take-overs it was renamed again as the Nationwide.
