Auctioneers

John Smith Mason, youngest son of Stewart Mason, of Mason's Farm. He was born in 1864 and became an auctioneer. His brother George, who was 3 years older, was well known in Rushden as a solicitor and the Town Clerk for many years.

John married Emily Claridge, daughter of Ebenezer, on November 25th 1897, at St Mary's Church. They lived in Kimbolton Road, (now Northampton Road) Rushden, facing Hayway.

The offices were at 27 High Street, but moved to no 30 later.

Emily died in 1918, and they had no children.

In 1930 owing to ill health, this was taken over by Robert Tusting.

John died in 1932, aged 67. He was buried in Rushden Cemetery:

C144/145: In loving memory of Emily MASON the beloved wife of John Smith MASON born Dec 2nd 1869 died Aug 10th 1918. Also of John Smith MASON born Nov 28th 1864 died May 31st 1932.


In 1930 Robert Tusting succeeded
Mr. John S. Mason.
