Mr. J. H. Smith

The death occurred on Saturday night of Mr. James Henry Smith, aged 90, of Queen-street, Rushden.

In his early days Mr. Smith was a seaman and came to Rushden to join the boot industry. The first caretaker of the Rushden Co-operative Society’s Hall, and central premises he held that position for 23 years.

He was the oldest member of the Rushden Tent of the Independent Order of Rechabites, and for many years was a Sunday School teacher at the High-street Independent Wesleyan Church.           

He leaves six children, 14 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. The funeral took place at the house and cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. C. J. Keeler officiating.
