Church - Organ

The organ was built by John Tanner of Raunds and was installed in 1936 and electricity was fitted in the church in 1951. The plaque on the organ reads:

This Organ was provided by means of a public subscription and was dedicated on Sunday July 26 1936 by the Rev A G Bagshaw.

Miss Hirst Simpson Opens Sale of Work
Help From Chelveston

A sale of work, organised by St Peter’s Church Sewing Party, was held in the Newton Bromshold Schoolroom on Saturday afternoon, and was in aid of the New Organ Fund. The opening ceremony was performed by Miss Hirst Simpson, O.B.E., of Chelveston, and the chair was taken by the Rev. W R Taylor. They were supported on the platform by Mrs. Harry Gadsden (president), Mrs. J McCartney (hon. secretary), and Mrs. A Mills (hon. treasurer).

The following were the stall-holders:— Flower stall, Miss Doris Bates; pound stall, Mrs. F Billing and Miss Boddington; needlework stall, Mrs. W Holt and Miss Taylor; sweet stall, Mrs. B Matthews and Mr Harry Gadsden; refreshment stall, Mrs. J Barnett, Mrs. A Bates, Mrs. B Bone, Mrs. N King and Mrs. R Lines, assisted by Mrs. Geo. Dorrington, Mrs. Don Sanders, Miss Phyllis Barnett and Miss Edith Warrington.

During the evening a concert was held, when a splendid programme was given by friends from Chelveston. Solos were given by Mrs. Dunsmore, Miss D Hart, the Rev. W R Taylor, Messrs. Edwards and Holyoak, duets by Mrs. Head and Mrs. Denny, the Misses B Knight and E Hart, and recitations by Miss D Hart, Mr. Gray, and Master E Denny, a sketch by Mr. M Mitchell and another sketch entitled “Slightly Mixed,” by Mrs. Baxter, Mrs. Denny, Mrs. Mitchell, Miss K Baxter and Miss W Britten. The choir also rendered three choruses, and Mr. Felce was the accompanist.

A competition for Victoria sandwiches had been arranged and there were 28 competitors. The first prize, value 10/-, was won by Mrs. Charles Warrington, and the second prize, value 5/-, by Mrs. James Taylor, Yelden. Mrs. Wildman of Rushden was the judge.
