Sanders' Farm

The farm
'Park View' farmhouse - built in 1901

Park View Farm was started by Arthur George Sanders (born in 1876 at Astwood), and his wife Bertha (nee Bone b1873 Roxton). At the time the farm was built, there were few houses in Avenue Road, and this looked out across Higham Park land and farm.

They had married in 1902 and their son Donald Arthur William Sanders was born in 1903. Donald married Jessie Frances Underwood in 1922. Their first son Gordon was born in 1924, Raymond Peter in 1926, and a third son, Donald junior, in December 1937. All three boys attended the at Newton Bromswold. school

Arthur George died in 1953 aged 77 and Bertha in 1957 aged 84. They had been living in a bungalow at the Bedford Road end of Avenue Road, but moved to Fairview Cottage at Yelden.

The two older sons of Donald and Jessie, Gordon (married Marian Carter in 1948), and Peter (married Kath Dickens in 1949), eventually took over the farm, and with their growing families, the farm house was extended to accommodate both families.
