THE "Iron Bridge" at the end of Rushden High Street has been removed.
A spokesman for the firm who carried out the demolition, T. W. Ward of Sheffield, said today that the job had been finished satisfactorily."
Workmen began work on the railway bridge on Sunday afternoon, and yesterday a 25-ton crane was brought in to remove girders and cross-members.
Mr Stan Bent, who was in charge of the work, explained it was being removed because of the high cost of having it inspected and painted.
He added that they will probably be back in Rushden next week to remove a footbridge a few yards further up the line. The line has been disused for several years. |
