Arthur Allebone

Augustus Allebone was born at Wellingborough in 1864, and he married Matilda (born 1863 Kingsthorpe). They came to Rushden and lived in Queen Street for a time and two sons were born, Horace in 1889 and Arthur in 1890. In 1901 the family was at 14 Midland Road, moving to 26 Wellingborough Road by 1903. By 1910 they were living at Roseneath 284 Wellingborough Road. Augustus founded the Allebone shoe company in 1902. His sons joined him in the business.

Sadly his eldest son Horace was killed in WWI.

All three are commemorated in Rushden Cemetery:

Rushden Cemetery Grave F409/10 - In loving memory of Horace ALLEBONE killed in France November 20th 1917 aged 28. Augustus ALLEBONE died March 25th 1931 aged 68. Matilda ALLEBONE died August 24th 1936 aged 74.

Arthur Allebone married Ada M Roberts in 1912, and they had three sons, Augustus (known as Gus) in 1913, Alan in 1915, and Phillip in 1921.

BEST IN SHOW—The wire fox-terrier bitch "Minor of Morement," belonging to Mr. A. Allebone, of Rushden, won five first prizes and was awarded "special for best in show, all breeds," at the Luton Sporting Terrier Show held last Saturday.

Arthur later joined the council, and the County Council, he was a J.P., and in 1944 he was made a County Alderman.
