Ald. Allebone made rapid headway in public life after joining Rushden Urban Council as a Conservative in 1925. He was elected to the County Council when the late Mr A H Sartoris retired in 1928, and represented the South Ward until the town was re-divided into three wards for County Council purposes. Forceful in debate and popular in the committee rooms, he has been an influential figure on the Finance, Roads and Bridges, Public Assistance and other committees.

Chairman of Rushden Urban Council in 1935-36, after a year in the vice-chair, Mr Allebone led the local celebrations of the Royal Silver Jubilee, and at the close of his year of office presented the Council with a civic chain. He became a magistrate in 1934, in which year he was chairman of the Rushden School Managers.

A native of Rushden, he is managing director of Messrs Allebone and Sons Ltd., boot manufacturers. His many public appointments have included membership of the Wellingborough Area Assessment Committee from its formation in 1928, membership of the Higham Ferrers and Rushden Water Board, with a year in the chair, and governorship of Wellingborough High School for Girls, Wellingborough Grammar School, the old Wellingborough Foundation Grammar School and Kimbolton School. He is a member and past-president of Rushden Rotary Club, past-president of the Northamptonshire County Bowling Association, and past-president and captain of the Rushden Town Bowling Club. In 1932 he was a member of the Northamptonshire team that won the English Counties Bowling Championship.

During the war Mr Allebone has served in the 8th N.N. Home Guard, and for some time he has held the rank of Major commanding E Company, Rushden. His elder son, Capt. Gus Allebone, is serving with the West African Force, and the younger, Major Alan Allebone, is in Italy.
