A Gymnasium has been started in connection with the Queen-street Independent Wesleyan Sunday school, being open to the two senior boys’ classes. Mr. Jaques is the president of the gymnasium, and last night he entertained the members to a special gathering.

A Good Friend to Rushden Cricket
Town Club Makes
a Presentation to
Mr. A.Gramshaw

Mr. Alfred Gramshaw whose sporting action last year saved Rushden Town Cricket Club from extinction, with two
of his sons at the Town Ground.
The club showed its gratitude
on Wednesday by presenting
Mr. Gramshaw with a leather suitcase.

Denis Maddams was vice captain (having been captain for 9 years)

These photographs all came to us courtesy of Denis Maddams.
Denis played football for the Intermediate School, as an 'Old Boy' and for Rushden Amateurs.
He was also a very good cricketer.
|
Charlie May was unofficially known as Mr Rushden as regards cricket. He did everything for the club from playing, groundsman and secretary. He used to organise all the County cricket matches at Rushden. He'd get various celebrities to come and present the trophies for the factory knock-out competitions, such as John Arlott and H. E. Bates. |
