The final of Rushden Works K.O. Cricket Cup provided its usual thrills when John White's and Bignell's met on Monday evening. With three overs to go, the issue was still in doubt but Bignell's managed to gain a comfortable victory.

Impregnable were soon in trouble and were three wickets down with only 20 runs on the board. Then came a stand by H. Jolley and D. Clarke which took the total to 69 before another wicket went down. Boundaries were plentiful and some of the methods of gaining them were quite unique. Style went by the board in the hustle for runs and there was plenty of excitement as batsmen scampered down the wicket for short runs.

When Jack Lawrence bowled Britchford, John White's last man, the score was 107, for which 18 overs and four balls had been necessary.

Took Edge Off

Bignell's opening pair, Lawrence and Bernard Coles, proved a little slower in their run-getting, but their methods proved effective in the long run for they knocked the edge off the bowling.

After the softening up process by the opening bats, in went George Sail the Rushden Town footballer, to give one of the most stylish and aggressive innings of the match. He made 36 before being caught off the slow bowling of H. Jolley.

Biggest hitter was Crosslev, who, in his 25 for White's, hit one ball for six on to the football ground from the pavilion end.

Two wickets fell with the score art 104, Childs claiming both of them with successive balls. The winning hit was made by Addis, who made 18 not out.

Queen There

A cup to the winners and replicas to both sides were presented by Rushden's Festival Queen, Miss Margaret Chapman, who was accompanied by her attendants, Miss Sheila Dennis and Miss Barbara Perkins.

Gate receipts were £18 6s. and a competition realised £16 14s.
