Thursday Cricket Club
Thursday was half day closing for the shopkeepers - the main members of this club.

Extracted from the History of The Baptist Recreation Club
In 1905 the Baptist Recreation Club was formed. They used the field occupied by the Rushden Thursday Cricket Club, who allowed use of it on Saturdays.
The club progressed satisfactorily up to the War, during which it was kept going with the assistance of the soldiers who were billeted in Rushden at that time.
The Thursday Club being disbanded, [before 1926] we took over and rented the present field from Mr. Wm. Chettle (an old Baptist scholar), and a Tennis Section was commenced. Later the field was purchased outright by the Church for a Recreation field.

Thursday C.C. Needs Members
Last season the Rushden Thursday Cricket Club won ten matches, lost five, drew three and had four rained off. This is not up to their usual standard and they hope to do better this time.

But two of their players have left the side, N. J. Collings has moved to Burton-on-Trent, and J. M. Kendall has been called up for National Service.

They have now fourteen playing members and this allows only a very narrow margin if any of them could not turn up for a match. The club, members of which are mainly local shopkeepers, would like at least two more members.
