Roe Bros shop at 120 High Street c1905 & c1910

Mr. James Roe came to Rushden in 1905 with his brother, Mr. William Roe, and
took over the business of
Mr. H. F. Robinson, draper,
of High-street.

Roe Brothers established their business on the corner of Victoria Road at
120 High Street.

William died in 1931 but the company continued to trade into the 1970s. It moved to
20 High Street about 1950.

Draper'€™s Military Appeal—The Northamptonshire Appeals Tribunal on Monday considered an appeal by Mr. William Roe, of Rushden, aged 37, married, of the firm of Messrs. Roe Bros., drapers, High-street, Rushden. Applicant's brother, it was stated, has received conditional exemption. Since his appeal at Rushden was dismissed by the Local Tribunal, applicant has been examined by the Military Medical Board and passed in Category B3. Three months' exemption was now granted, with leave to appeal again.

Gregory Roe in 1976
In 1976 the shop closed when Gregory Roe and his wife Ellen retired.
He had first joined the business of his Uncle James and father William
at the age of 16. Mr & Mrs Roe are retiring to a bungalow in Bangor, NI, where Ellen was born and "a host" of her family members live.
