A E Chettle

Albert Edward Chettle was born in Rushden in 1867, and he was living with his widowed mother Hannah and his sister at 20 Crabb Street in 1891, and working as a shoe rivetter.

In August 1893 he married Mary Ann Wills, daughter of Samuel, when he was already trading as a grocer.

His first shop was 42 Crabb Street, and about 1902 Albert opened a second shop at 118 Cromwell Road. He continued with both shops until 1928, when he died aged 62.

Mary Ann continued with the shop in Cromwell Road for a few years. She died in 1950 and was buried next to Albert in Rushden Cemetery.
