Course & Hewitt
41 High Street
Sarah "Lottie" Hewitt co-owned Course & Hewitt, with Elizabeth Course, of Bedford. Both were costumiers.

In 1901 they were living at 22 Church Street, with one of their workers boarding with them, and one servant girl.

Their drapery and dress shop at 41 High Street, began advertising in Kelly's Directory from 1903. They employed up to 30 women.

Adjoining the bank at 41 High Street was a bakery, built in 1888 by William Foskett, with a long building behind which housed the ovens for Hipwell Mills. The baker/manager was William Corbett.

Nothing more is known of Elizabeth Course.

Sarah was a daughter of Charles Hewitt, stationer printer, and sub-postmaster, and Elizabeth. They traded at 35 High Street.

When her father died in 1911, her sister Elizabeth Hewitt had already taken over his business. Elizabeth their mother died in January 1914.

Sarah also died in November 1914 and was buried on the 10th.
