and the shop at Higham Road/Northampton Road
all closed up before the Co-op took over the property
My husband bought a butchers shop at the corner of Northampton Road, opposite the Toll Bar.
He had been a Manager for Dewhursts for many years in London, and had always wanted his own shop. He bought it in the late 1940's and soon built up a very good reputation for making his own sausages, and supplying the American Air base at Chelveston. The Strickland's Van was also very well known in Rushden and Higham. Due to ill health the shop was sold to the Co-op, but sadly has now been demolished.
