Presumed Killed
News has been received from the Records Office that Sgt. Harold Percy Wood (26), Northants Regt., only son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Wood, 101, Rushden-road, Wymington, who was reported missing on May 13th, 1944, is now presumed to have been killed on April 3rd. Sergt. Wood joined the Army in October, 1939, being one of the first Wymington men to be called up.

He served in France from April to June, 1940, and afterwards went to Madagascar, the Middle East, and Persia, and was in the landings on Sicily and Italy.

Before joining the forces Sgt. Wood was employed by the Rushden Co-operative grocery department Queen-street stores. He was a popular member of the Wymington Football Club, Rushden Thursday F.C. and Rushden Band Club.
