Ted Harris died suddenly following a heart attack on Tuesday 10 October. Born in 1913 he was educated at Kimbolton School followed by the School of Leather Technology in Northampton.

He joined the family firm of Harris Brothers Ltd. in Higham Ferrers, which was taken over by Strong Rawle and Strong, and then finally by Barrow Hepburn and Gale. After the closure of Harris Brothers he became Works Chemist for Edward Woodley and Sons Ltd in 1976, a position he held until his sudden death.

For many years he was an active member of the Society of Leather Trades Chemists which he joined in 1940. He was made a Life Member of the Society in 1985 and was a founder member of the Northampton Group of the Society. He was also a member of the Syllabus Committee of the City and Guilds of London Institute for many years, and acted as an examiner.

He will be greatly missed by his many friends both inside and outside the leather trade, who extend their condolences to Mrs May Harris and his daughters Jane and Sue with their families.
