John Thomas Tusting was a grocer/draper/farmer/coal merchant when the 1891 census was taken at Tusting Home Farm, Newton Bromswold. He came here in about 1885 from Thrapston. John was now aged 43 with his wife Sarah Lamar Tusting now aged 35, and the children were Robert 19, Goodwin son 13, Osborn 12, Jennie11, James 9, Ruth 8, Bernard 6, Jessie 4, and Millicent 2. The two youngest were born at Newton Bromswold. He had opened his business in Rushden at High Street and Queen Street by 1893.
By October 1897 he was giving up farming and all his stock was to be sold on the 8th, at the farm.
In 1898 Kelly's Directory tell us he had a grocery shop in High Street, but in 1903 he was not listed. |
