Quennell's Fish & Chip Shop

This rather poor photograph is of the chip shop at 44 Cromwell Road, where
children would buy a pennyworth of chips with a few "batter bits" sprinkled on top!

Is this Mr Quennell?

The business was started in 1922 by Mr Harry Burfield.
Mr Ronald Dawson Quennell was there in 1940, and he also kept another fish shop in Birchall Road.
A memory shared with us:

Ron also made his own crisps, and sold them in a bag with a big Q on it.

The next proprietor was Dave King. He used to have a 'fag' hanging on his lip. You couldn't see much until you got to the counter! There was often a cat sitting on top of the pile newspapers that he used to overwrap the chips. He'd just push the cat off!
