Impresssive Frontage.
Welcome.

The Ugly Duckling is a Danish literary fairy tale by Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen.

Cladding going on.

In 1952 Danny Kaye recorded a novelty record about an Ugly Duckling. And it used to be played most Saturday mornings on the wireless, as it was known then (Radio).

The former factory of Cox and Wright, that stood on the corner of Wellingborough Road and Northampton  Road, (Sanders Lodge) was to put it bluntly, just a place to manufacture things.

No need to be looking pretty, or winning prizes for architectural excellence.

So if ever there was a need to call the makeover of a building, as an Ugly Duckling, this was surely the case.

Cox and Wright were there for quite a few years, followed by Helix Lighting.

After standing empty for quite a few years, a new Home Outlet store opened, at first selling furniture returns and ends of lines. Gradually building up their trade, and improving the quality of the stock. They could now afford to carry out repairs to the leaking roof, and revamp the whole building.

Finishing Touches.
Impresssive.

Now that building is a proud Swan, after work began on the massive upgrade in 2024, the revamp makes such a big impression.

Despite the chilly feel in the weather, dry with 13C being the high.

Customers were arriving in solid numbers for the Grand Opening Sale, on Friday 17th October, 2025.
