Six Sons Have Served


Five serving sons, another who has been discharged, and one son-in-law on service is the proud record that Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Wiggins, of 39, Washbrook-road, Rushden, have of their family.

The family represented as follows: Pte. Walter Wiggins, R.A.M.C. (38), with seven weeks’ service; Pte. Fred Wiggins, R.A.O.C. (33), two years’ service; L.A.C. Sidney Wiggins, R.A.F. (31), two years’ service; L.A.C. Horace Wiggins, R.A.F. (29), 3½ years’ service; Cpl. Harold Wiggins, R.A.M.C. (25), over four years’ service; Albert (36), discharged from the R.A.S.C. for health reasons.  The son-in-law is L/Cpl. P. Mitchell of the Military Police.

Sidney has served abroad for 12 months and is now in Cairo.  Horace is in Wales.  Harold served in France during the early months of the war and has since gone out to India.

All are married.  Sid’s wife lives at Higham Ferrers, but the other wives are all Rushden residents.  Harold’s second wedding anniversary will be celebrated on January 10th.

Mr. Wiggins, Senr., was with the “Steelbacks” in France for three years during the last war, and is now employed at Messrs. A. Allebone and Sons’ boot factory, where his sons, Walter, Horace and Sid, all worked before joining the Forces.  Harold worked at the Co-operative Bakery and L/Cpl. Mitchell and Fred Wiggins (who played in the Town Band) were employees of Messrs. Walter Sargent and Co.

All the Wiggins boys went through the Rushden Alfred-street Schools and two passed on to the Intermediate School.
