Sergt. E. Walker
Rushden Sergeant Awarded French Medal

We are pleased to make public property the knowledge of the honour done to a Rushden soldier, Sergt. E. Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Walker, Grove-street. The soldier’s parents received the following letter from Capt. P. Baden Powell, of the Trench Mortar Battery: “I am writing to tell you that your son, Sergt. E. Walker, has been awarded the French Medal, the Croix de Guerre. He has been acting as my sergeant-major for some months, and it gave me the greatest pleasure to recommend him for this distinction. He has been with me in several tight corners, and has always done splendidly. Please accept my heartiest congratulations.” And ours, too!
