The Rushden Echo, 20th April 1917, transcribed by Kay Collins
Corporal John Souter M.M.
Rushden Soldier’s Bravery
Corporal John Souter Saves a Comrade’s Life
We have pleasure in reporting that Corpl. John Souter, Northants Regt., second son of Mrs John Souter of 31, Little-street, Rushden, has been awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous bravery in action in France. After his company had made a raid on the German trenches, Corpl. Souter carried back a comrade with a broken leg to his own trench at great risk to himself.

Corpl. Souter has the proud record of 17 years’ service in the Army. He served in Africa and went out to France at the commencement of this war, and since has been twice wounded and once gassed, but is now as well as ever. He left home for France again yesterday, and our good wishes go with him.
