Mr. Edward Murdin, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Murdin, of 105 Cromwell-road, Rushden, has recently received a handsome gold watch from the Board of Directors of the Rushden and Higham Ferrers District Gas Co., on his return to the service of the company after gallant work on the field of battle.
On October 13th last he took an important message from the front line under difficult circumstances and very heavy fire, and for his brave act was awarded the Military Medal.
He enlisted on July 13th 1917, and served as a private in the London regiment, going to France on Easter Day last year. In August Pte. Murdin was wounded in the head, and had just rejoined his battalion when he won the coveted medal. He is only 20 years of age.
The watch was inscribed:”Presented to Edward Murdin by the directors of the Rushden and Higham Ferrers Gas Co., on his obtaining the Military Medal at Lille, October 14th 1918.”
