Rushden Soldier Honoured - Military Medal
Mr. and Mrs. J. Wilson, of 211, Wellingborough-road, Rushden, have received a letter from their son, Pte. Herbert Wilson, of the Coldstream Guards, to say that he has been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry on the field. Pte. Wilson, who enlisted from Stafford at the outbreak of war, was a well-known Stafford football player, and prior to leaving Rushden, about six years ago, he played left half-back for the Rushden Windmill Football Club. He has been in France just over three years, and has come through so far without a wound of any description, although he has had many narrow escapes.

A letter has been received from Pte. Herbert Wilson, Coldstream guards, by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Wilson, before enlistment from Stafford at the beginning of the war, was a well-known Stafford footballer, and prior to leaving Rushden, about six years ago, he played for the Windmill Football Club. He has not, so far, been wounded at all, though he has had many narrow escapes.
Sergt. W. Green, Northants Regt., son of Mr. H. Green, of Rushden, formerly of Rothwell, has been awarded the Military Medal, for running shells up on a light railway under fire.
