Rushden Soldier Victim - Private Sidney Matthews Reported Killed in Action

Mr and Mrs Fred Matthews, of 101, Cromwell-road, Rushden, have received indirect information that their son, Pte Sidney Matthews, of the -- Queen's Royal West Surreys, has been killed in action. This disquieting news is sent by a comrade, Pte Shaw, of Wellingborough, in a letter to his wife, who communicated the news to Mrs Matthews. Mr and Mrs Matthews have received no official information whatever, but it is three weeks since they received a letter from their son. Naturally they are in much anxiety of mind, and would be grateful for any further particulars of their son's fate.

Pte Matthews enlisted in October, 1915, and proceeded to the western front in the following June. In September last year he was wounded in the right arm, and sent to England for three months, returning to the firing line in January this year. He was formerly in the employ of the Tecnic Boot Company, Rushden.
