Fatal Shrapnel Wounds
Mr & Mrs Arthur Loake of 23 Church Street, Rushden, received a letter from the War Office on Saturday which gave the sad news of the death of their youngest son, Trooper John Loake, Royal Lancers. The letter stated that John received shrapnel wounds while serving in the Central Mediterranean in April and died the following day. Just 20 years of age, Trooper Loake had been in the Army for 18 months worked in the Rushden Co-operative Drapery store. He was educated at the Wellingborough Grammar School and attended the Congregational Sunday School. One brother is with the RAF in India and another in the RAC.
