The Rushden Echo Friday 12 April 1918, transcribed by Nicky Bates

DIED OF WOUNDS - Mrs Knightall of 41 Cromwell-road, Rushden, has received a letter from an army chaplain, informing her that her husband, Pte G W Knightall, Machine Gun Corps, died of wounds on April 7th. The chaplain writes: "He had been very badly wounded in the back, the missile having penetrated into the abdomen and causing extensive injuries. Everything possible was done for him and for his comfort, but in spite of all treatment he gradually grew worse until he passed quietly away and without any pain. He will be buried in the cemetery attached to the hospital and a cross will mark his grave. Please accept my sympathy." The late Pte Knightall, who was 34 years of age, leaves a widow and one child to mourn their loss. He joined the Colours last July and had been in France five months. He was formerly employed by Messrs. Knight and Lawrence, boot manufacturers, Rushden.
