Rushden’s Casualty List
Mrs T. Burfield, of 141, Queen-street, Rushden, has again suffered further bereavement by the death in action of yet another brother, viz., 271581, Pte. Edward Britchford, of the Beds Regiment. The official notification states that he was killed in action on September 21st. This is the second brother Mrs Burfield has lost in the war, the first, the late Pte. Jack Britchford, Northants Regiment, having been killed on June 8th this year. Another brother, Pte. Charles Britchford, Queen’s Royal West Surreys, is fighting his country’s battles in France, as is also Mrs Burfield’s son, Pte. Edgar Burfield, of the same regiment. The late Pte. Edward Britchford, whose death is just reported, was 28 years of age, and he leaves a widow and three children to mourn their loss. He was well know in Rushden as a footballer. Pte. Edgar Burfield writes to his mother that he is with Pte. Sidney Pearcey, son of Mr P. Pearcey, of the “Rushden Echo” staff.
