Missing After a Flight
Flight Sergeant Geoffrey Gordon Bateman RAF, 19 years old, only son of Mr & Mrs Charles Bateman of 129 Irchester Road Rushden has recently been listed as 'missing from operations'. Sergt Bateman has been with the RAF since May 1943 and this was his ninth 'op' as a rear gunner of the plane. He joined the local squadron of the ATC at the commencement and after leaving Intermediate School worked at the Higham Road Branch of the Rushden Industrial Co-operative Society. He was a member of the Mission Church and Sunday School, belonged to the Mission Tennis Club and was a keen sportsman in general. Sgt Bateman has two sisters younger than himself.

Death Presumed – Rushden Airman who raided Berlin
Mr & Mrs Charles Bateman of 129 Irchester Road, Rushden have received the sad news that their only son Geoffrey is presumed killed while taking part in a raid on Berlin in a Lancaster bomber eight months ago.
A keen sportsman he played football and was a member of the Mission Tennis Club and the ATC. He attended the Mission Church.

Rushden Airman Killed
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bateman, of 129, Irchester-road, Rushden, have received news that their only son Geoffrey, is presumed killed, eight months after being reported missing from a raid on Berlin in a Lancaster bomber.
Flt.-Sergt. Bateman (19) was educated at the Rushden Intermediate School, and afterwards worked on the grocery staff of the R.I.C.S.
A keen sportsman, he played football, and was a member of the Mission Tennis Club and the A.T.C. He attended the Mission Church.
