Rushden Sergeant Killed

We are sorry to record that Sergt. A. G. Allen ("B" Company, 7th Northants) husband of Mrs Allen, of Windmill-road, Rushden, has been killed in action. Unofficial advices that he was ‘shot’ were received before, but only on Thursday did the official news come through that he was killed on September 27th. The deceased formerly served 16 years with the 1st Suffolk Regiment and went right through the South African War, for which he received two medals. At the outbreak of war Sergt Allen had served his time, but he enlisted in the 7th Northants Regiment in September 1914, and went out with the battalion to the front. He formerly worked at the boot factory of Messrs J. Hyde, Ltd. Much sympathy will be felt with deceased's widow and mother, and also his one young child.

Mrs. Allen, the wife, lost a locket containing this photo some weeks ago, and would be glad if the finder would return it to her or to the office of this paper.
