Bootmaking in The Army
Rushden Soldier Awarded Empire Medal

The British Empire Medal has been awarded to Corpl. Reginald J. Lovell, R.A.O.C., younger son of Mrs. W. Lovell of “Olnea,” Bedford-road, Rushden.

Cpl LovellCpl. Lovell has done skilled and special work in the Army by making and repairing surgical boots for men with misshapen feet. Aged 24 years, he attended school at Olney and was then apprenticed to the hand-sewn boot-making in London, afterwards managing a London boot repairing business. Early in the war he came to Rushden and worked for the Tecnic Boot Co. He joined the Army nearly four years ago and has served continuously in this country.

Cpl. Lovell’s wife and his two children are at present residing at “Olnea,” Rushden.
