The local Volunteers, under Lieut. G. R. Turner; the Special Constables, under Mr. Mead; and the Church Lads’ Brigade, under Lieut. Bailey, fell in at Spencer Park, and headed by the “Hallamshire” Bugle Band and accompanied by the C.L.B. Band, marched to the church. The Rev. Percy Robson conducted the service.

Military Dinner - Hallamshires Foregather at Rushden

The annual dinner in connection with the “C” Company of the Hallamshires was held on Friday evening in the Public Hall, Rushden, and proved to be a most enjoyable event. There was a large attendance of soldiers, and the guests included the following officers: Major Richardson, Capt. and Adjutant Warner, Capt. Gale, and Lieuts. Higham, Fixgerald, Barber, Hart, Mitchell, and Raikes. Much pleasure was expressed at the presence of Capt. Barnes, an old officer of the Company, who is home on leave from the Somme; and Lieut. Roberts, who also was formerly attached to the Company. It was also fortunate that 38 men who had been away on firing practice arrived just in time.

The decorations of the room were made elaborate, and the tables themselves were made to look beautiful by the hands of several young ladies from the Co-operative Society.
