Honours for Cpl. F. R. Esson – Splendid Work
Military Medal for Rushden
Corpl. F. R. Esson, Army Cyclist Corps, whose wife resides at 69, Portland-road, Rushden, has been awarded the Military Medal. Corpl. Esson, M.M., who is the son of Mr and Mrs H Esson, of Wellingborough, and formerly of Hillcrest, Queen-street, Rushden, joined the Colours on the outbreak of war, previous to which he was employed at the C.W.S. factory at Rushden. Enlisting in the Northants Regt., he was afterwards transferred to the A.C.C. He has been in hospital, and is now in a convalescent camp.

Corpl. Esson has received the following letters from his officers:-

“Dear Esson,—Please accept my heartiest congratulations on winning a very well-earned Military Medal. I hope you are getting on all right, and am very sorry you had to leave us. Good luck, Yours sincerely, A G Brown (Captain), O.C. “A” Coy., 17th C.C. Battn.”

“Dear Esson,—I have much pleasure in informing you that you have been awarded the Military medal. I am very pleased that your splendid work throughout the operations has been recognised. You led your gun team in an able and courageous manner and never failed to get into action when an opportunity presented itself. Other honours in No. 2 are Pte. Blair and Pte. G Jones, Military Medals; Sergt. Beatie got the D.C.M.; and Capt. Brown and myself the M.C. I hope by now you have recovered from your illness. We should all be pleased to hear from you. All the platoon join with me in heartily congratulating you on your success, and wish you good luck in the future. Yours respectfully, R T Scott, Second Lieut., A.C.C.”
