Sergeant Ernest Boyce

Distinguished Conduct Medal—Sergeant Ernest Boyce, Northants Regt., who before joining up resided with Mr. and Mrs. E. Clark, 51 Robinson-road, Rushden, has won the D.C.M. for bravery in the field in a counter-attack on March 22nd. Sergt. Boyce’s bombing party were held up by machine guns, but eventually took the position and several prisoners. Sergt. Boyce enlisted in Captain Stocken’s first batch, and proceeded to France on February 1st, and had been there over two years when he gained the distinction and was wounded in the leg. He is now a Sheffield hospital and the wounds are healing nicely. He has also been made full sergeant. He worked for Mr. C. A. K. Green, and, for a short period, Messrs. John Cave and Sons, before joining the Forces. He has received a letter from his captain to state that the granting of the medal has been confirmed.
