Flight-Sgt. Barford is Awarded D.F.M.
Airman’s Gallant Service

FltSgt BarfordThe D.F.M. has been won by Flt.-Sgt. Alfred Edward Barford, R.A.F.V.R. whose wife resides at 41 Midland-road, Rushden, together with his mother, Mrs. A. E. Barford, and his grandfather, Mr. A. E. Abbott, the dairyman.

Flt.-Sgt. Barford is 24 years of age and has been in the R.A.F. since 1940. For three years he was an instructor on Oxfords, and then went over to “ops,” completing his 37 in a Lancaster bomber just before Christmas. He is now taking another course in preparation for instructing again.

Born at Rushden, he left with his parents for Clapton, London, when two years of age, and later became a butcher there. He has three older brothers, one of whom is serving in the Airborne regiment.

Flt.-Sgt. And Mrs. Barford have a two-years-old daughter and a two-months-old son.
