Flying Officer Herbert Wm. Catlin, D.F.C.
Gallant Airman – Decoration for Flying Officer Catlin

The award of the D.F.C. has been made to Flying Officer Herbert Wm. Catlin, R.A.F.V.R., of Rushden, in recognition of numerous operations against the enemy, in which he has invariably displayed the utmost fortitude, courage and devotion to duty.

F/O CatlinFlying Officer Catlin is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Catlin, of 16 Oswald-road, but his home for the present is at Horden, Co. Durham, where his wife, Mrs. P. M. Catlin resides, with their fortnight-old son, Peter.

Aged 23, Flying Officer Catlin was a member of the Durham University Air Squadron before enlisting in 1941 for air crew. He trained in South Africa, and was commissioned in 1943. Recently he completed his 35 “ops” and is now on instructing. He was educated at Rushden Newton-road School and Wellingborough Grammar School.
