The Business was commenced by Mr. Allebone in 1902. In 1908 he moved to larger premises in High Street, and last October built a new factory, which is fitted with electric light, electric power, and all the latest and best machinery for producing footwear. Prior to the War the firm gave their sole attention to medium class youths’ and boys’ goods (and at this class of trade they are second to none), but like so many others they now make practically nothing else but Government work, having been engaged upon British and Russian boots for some time. When the business was converted into a limited company (in 1913) the management was left in the hands of the principal’s two sons, Horace and Arthur Allebone, but the former having joined His Majesty’s Forces, his brother Arthur is left in sole control and has to conduct the business. He has proved a very capable manager, and the firm are producing some fine work for the Government.
Gunner H. Allebone is “Somewhere in France” doing his bit in one of the new “Tanks” which have caused such consternation to the enemy.
